Welcome to Struggle Bus Theology. My name is Matthew Rickett and I’m the pastor of Christ Covenant Fellowship in Portland TN.
I write this blog for weary Christians who need encouragement. That’s my goal – to encourage you and to point you to King Jesus. As believers we live in the “already / not yet.” We’ve been redeemed, justified, and forgiven but we’re not yet complete. When Christ returns we will be resurrected, our bodies will be transformed, and we will be “like him for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2). Until then, we wait… we grow… we yearn… we mourn…we worship…we struggle…we fail…we pray… and we keep putting one wobbly foot in front of the other, trusting Christ to guide us home.
Though we battle with indwelling sin, we are not left without resources. The Holy Spirit himself abides with us. We go to the Word of God so that we can see Christ, and there, by faith, we feast on him. I am convinced that the secret to living the Christian life isn’t about trying harder. No, it’s about gazing upon the beauty of Christ so that we will be transformed “from one degree of glory to another” (cf. 2 Cor 3:18).
If we’re honest, we’re all on the struggle bus. None of us are crushing it. Even if we feel like we’re on the mountain top, it won’t last long. We need to constantly come back to Gospel springs and drink in the goodness of Jesus. That’s what I want this blog to be – a place where the spiritual ragamuffins and scallywags can find a good word to bless their soul.
In Christ!
Pastor Matthew Rickett
