By nature, I’m a people pleaser. I generally hate conflict, and I have a tendency to try too hard to make people like me. But, in reality, not everyone is going to you. There are times when the best thing to do is just walk away. For me, that almost feels un-Christ like.
But, in When to Walk Away, Gary Thomas goes to the Scripture to prove that even Jesus walked away from people at times. Not everyone is genuine. Not everyone has your best interest at heart. There are people that don’t need to be in your inner circle. And that’s ok. Think about it: Jesus was literally perfect, completely sinless, and people still rejected him, crucified him even. So the idea that you can get along with anyone just isn’t true. Gary Thomas does a great job helping people pleasers like me to understand that sometimes we need to walk away.
