The Mortification of Sin by John Owen (1616-1683)

I suppose you know you’re a nerd when you have a “favorite Puritan.” For me, that award goes to John Owen. His writings on Christ stir my soul every time I read. This go around, I’m reading The Mortification of Sin. It’s short book about striving with and killing the indwelling sin that remains in the flesh. His famous line from the book is, “Be killing sin or it will be killing you.” His point: Sin will always be at war so we must always be active in putting to death the old man. The link is to the modern English version. Puritans are hard to read just by virtue of the old writing style. But the modern English versions make them far more accessible to the average reader.
